Down To Earth Oyster Shell is an all-natural and high-quality source of the essential plant nutrient calcium. Ancient oyster shells are carefully harvested and then ground into small, medium and coarse particles. These irregular shapes provide a sustained release of this valuable nutrient. DTE Oyster Shell also aids in improving the structure of soils and building optimum tilth.

Application Rates:

Lawns: For smaller lawns, spread ¼-½ cup per 10 square feet depending on soil analysis and water in well in fall or spring. For larger lawns, spread 10-50 lbs. per 1,000 square feet depending on soil analysis and water in well in fall or spring. Repeat annually, with rates determined by soil testing.

Vegetable Gardens & Flower Beds: To prepare new gardens, apply 3-6 lbs. per 100 square feet and thoroughly mix into the top 3″ of garden soil in spring or fall. For new transplants, add 1-2 tsp. per hole, mix into soil and water in well.

Trees & Shrubs: Spread 1 lb. per 1″ of trunk diameter around the base outwards to the drip line, mix into soil surface and water in well. For new trees, prepare transplant hole and mix 1-2 cups with the backfill soil. Use the amended soil to fill in around the new tree and water in well.
